  • Getting There / Parking: Brighton Marina is situated on the eastern side of Brighton, one mile east of Brighton Pier. You can reach it by car, bus, Volks Railway or foot.

    By car
If you are travelling by car you need to park on either the ground floor east or Level 6 of the multi storey car park in the disabled bays. There is a footbridge from level 6 which takes you over to the waterfront area, The Boardwalk, which is bursting with restaurants and offers stunning views of the harbour.

    On foot
If you decide to go on foot or by wheelchair it will take between forty minutes and one hour from Brighton Pier along the coastline of Brighton (Madeira Drive) which is flat and makes for a very pleasant seaside stroll on a nice day. There are several accessible toilets en route and although I have not checked I would assume they require a RADAR key. About 2/3rd’s of the way along Madeira Drive the pavement stops taking you to a path that runs along the beach. The path here is concrete and in good condition the only problem is if you meet another wheelchair or pushchair somebody has to go onto the shingle. In my experience, the pushchairs usually make way for me.

When you reach Brighton Marina (at the east end of Madeira Drive) there is a slope which takes you directly into the Asda Car Park it is quite steep and pushing a wheelchair back up may take some effort/two people. My electric scooter had no problem with it.

  • Getting In: The multi storey car park offers free disabled parking located on both Level 6 (22 exclusive bays) and the ground floor level with 20 exclusive signed bays in the East side of the car park. Once parked the Boardwalk is directly accessible from either Level 6 of via the footbridge or via the disabled ramp on the ground floor opposite McDonalds. Access to the ground level shops, restaurants and market in Marina Square and Palm Drive is available from zebra crossings opposite the car park exits. Parking in the Asda car park is restricted to a few hours and is really only convenient for shopping in Asda. There is no road parking.
  • Getting Around / Facilities: The ground floor offers leisure venues (Park Square), shops (Mermaid Walk & marina Square) and some more bars, restaurants and cafes (Mermaid Walk & Marina Square).

When in the marina the shops are on ground level with some restaurants, pubs and all cafes but the majority of restaurants are on the upper deck/The Boardwalk. There are passenger lifts between The Boardwalk and the Ground floor/Mermaid Walk.

The are two accessible disabled toilets located directly by the lifts in Mermaid Walk on the ground floor. It is possible to walk or trundle (which is how I refer to being on my scooter) along by the Boardwalk restaurants looking at the boats but there are a couple of short ramps to negotiate on the way.

  • Additional Comments: Obviously I haven’t sampled all of the eateries but some of our other volunteers have, and you can see these reviews under our 'Eating and Drinking in Brighton Marina Section'.

The cinema and Bowlplex are also reviewed on our Guide

If you like being out and about and being amongst people, you will have a really nice day out, and when the weather is good it is a must.
