  • Getting In: There are a few steps up to the entrance or, for anyone with mobility problems, there is a slope as well.
  • Getting Around / Facilities: Once inside, the ground floor is all on one level and includes a tearoom which is well worth a visit!

The first floor can be accessed by stairs or a small lift which contains a small pull-down seat. (The lift is well worth a look!) The exhibits on this floor are excellent and, as a wheelchair user, I had no difficulty seeing things. Most things were at a height accessible for wheelchair users with pull-out information drawers at waist level.

There is a tiny cinema showing short films of local interest with plenty of room for a wheelchair.

The Museum focuses on local history and things of local interest. Each room had braille signs and all around the building there is seating available for a rest or just to sit and contemplate.

They also have a fully accessible toilet.

They have new disabled toilets and changing rooms for babies located on the Ground floor, which is accessible for wheel chair users and push chair users.

They have Disabled toilet located on the 1st floor.

  • Additional Comments: The art exhibitions change regularly so it is somewhere to return to again and again and you will never be bored.

The Tea Rooms are a great meeting place even if you don't want to look at the museum. They serve light snacks and amazing home made cakes.
