  • Getting There / Parking: On the prom of Brighton Seafront, opposite Adelaide Crescent.

For the last few weeks I have been taking a mobility scooter out from Shopmobility in Churchill Square (see Contact Us for details) and it has given me a new lease of life. One of the most lovely places I have visited recently on the scooter is the infamous Meeting Place, just along from Brunswick Square at the Peace Statue on the seafront, directly opposite Embassy Court if you come by taxi/car.

There is plenty of Pay and Display parking at the side of the road alongside the seafront.

To get there is easy once you are anywhere along the seafront and there are plenty of ramped dropdowns, so if you come up against a set of steps, just keep scooting until you find one!

  • Getting In: Arriving at the open-air Meeting Place Cafe, you need to queue up and the counter is a little high, but the staff are friendly and, if you are alone they will come round and take your tea/meal/whatever to your table if you like, just ask.
  • Getting Around / Facilities: The whole place covers quite a large area right next to the beach with fantastic views out to sea. There are areas with windshields, if it's a bit blustery, and also nice open bits when the sun's out. Wheelchair and scooter users can easily get around by butting some of the plastic chairs out the way!!! (Just kidding)

If it rains while you are there, there is a sheltered area in front of the serving hatch which can seat about 15 people so more than enough room for a scooter or two.

Everytime I go there with my son, we end up meeting other friendly people. On the first trip by scooter, it rained and I ended up sitting under the awning with a traveller from Australia, a man and his elderly Mum from London, a labrador pup and a beagle.

I got my large scooter up the ramp to the toilet at the Meeting Place and then got off and walked in. There is enough space for a large wheelchair and handrails for transfer. If this one is not suitable for you there is a full-sized disabled toilet half a km down the promenade going west, you need a Radar key to get in but there is often an attendant around.

  • Additional Comments: They've got loads of information on their website www.themeetingplacecafe.co.uk.

The menu is extensive ranging from toasties, burgers, chilli and rice to the 'Pigs Breakfast' and trendy panninis filled with various delights.
