  • Getting There / Parking: Al Fresco is situated on the sea front just to the west of the remains of the West Pier

There are disabled parking bays at various intervals along the seafront, but not immediately by Al Fresco. If you decide on a taxi (then everyone can have a drink), I've been told that it is a bit of an awkward spot to unload a wheelchair because there is nowhere to pull in and the traffic there is quite fast moving.

  • Getting In: It is on two floors, the lower floor which is on the beach level is a cocktail bar and the upper floor which is at street level is an Italian restaurant. It is quite a unique looking building with lots of glass which means panoramic views. The lower level has an access ramp to the east side of the building with a press button glass door, unfortunately on the day I went the button had been vandalised and I did need assistance with the heavy glass door. There is also another glass door inside.

In the winter months the disabled entrance is not always open because of the strong winds in this area but it can be opened if needed. In the summer months it is open all of the time.

  • Getting Around / Facilities: Once inside, the bar is very modern, open and spacious with views all along the seafront. I didn't encounter any problems except that I found the approach to the accessible toilet was at a rather tight angle and it is one of those toilets where you have to negotiate your way around the door before you can close it.

The restaurant on the upper floor is accessed via a ramp from the pavement, unfortunately there are no toilets on this floor and the only means of getting to the lower floor is a flight of stairs. The alternative is to exit the building and go along the seafront to one of the ramps and go down that way. The manager told me that permission for more toilets upstairs was refused! If you can cope with the toilet situation the view is well worth a visit, but I must admit that on a very sunny day it gets very hot!
