Font, The

The Font is a busy, modern bar characterised by loud music and a pre-club-going atmosphere.  It is fairly accessible for the most part.

Access information:

  • There is sloped access
  • There is an accessible toilet

  • Address: Union St
    The Lanes
    Brighton
    BN1 1HA

  • Phone: 01273 747727
  • Getting There / Parking: The Font is located in the South Lanes, accessible on foot from Ship Street. Many buses stop in North Street

As this bar is in the middle of the Lanes, parking is relatively restricted. There are a few disabled spaces in Ship Street and off East Street (next to the Varsity pub). There is an NCP car park in Black Lion Street. It is approximately 5 minutes walk from the Churchill Square multi-storey car park.

  • Getting In: The main entrance has a ramped access from the street and a wide entryway.
  • Getting Around / Facilities: Inside, the venue forms a kind of amphitheatre with the bar in centre stage surrounded by a small standing area, reached by two steps. However, above this is the ground level seating area, which is fully accessible. It is also possible to access the bar from the side to order drinks, if you are able to attract the attention of bar staff. Additional seating is available on a second level upstairs, however there is no lift.

An accessible toilet is available on the left-hand side of the bar, along a corridor next to the fruit machines. It is signed but can be easily missed (it is most certainly there!). It uses a radar key which can be obtained from bar staff. The toilet itself is relatively spacious.

  • Additional Comments: The Font is a busy, modern bar characterised by loud music and a pre-club kind of atmosphere. This seems to be a popular venue for students and the under-30s. Thursday nights are known for the student cocktail night, with cheap cocktails served all night.

I went here on a Friday night, when the bar was quite busy and fairly loud. It seems to be a good venue for a big night out on the town, but certainly not a bar for everyone. Access wise, getting served might be a challenge on the busier nights unless you have someone with you who can access the front of the bar.
