  • Getting There / Parking: Food for Friends was the first vegetarian restaurant in Brighton, started in 1981 and is situated in The Lanes. There are a few disabled parking spaces in various parts of the Lanes, and some Pay and Display, but in general, this area is so congested I wouldn't even bother trying to find one.

There is a car park in Ship Street which is very close by or NCP parking at Churchill Square. It's about 10 minutes walk from the Station, 5 minutes from bus stops at Western Road or 2 minutes walk from the seafront.

  • Getting In: The restaurant has several entrances but unfortunately they all have a step and when I asked if a ramp was available the answer was "no", but they will always assist anyone who uses a wheelchair.
  • Getting Around / Facilities: Inside, the tables are quite close together and as the restaurant now consists of several buildings knocked into one there are steps as you cross from one of the original buildings to another.

There is also a step to access the toilet, but this is not big enough to take a wheelchair anyway. There is a very small outside seating area if the weather is nice but remember to use the public toilets beforehand!

When I asked if there were any plans to make the building more accessible, I was told that a refurbishment was to take place in a couple of months time, which would be July 2009 approximately, and this would provide an accessible toilet.

  • Additional Comments: They offer gourmet vegetarian food and cater for people with special dietary needs, and have vegan and gluten free options for many dishes on the menu, as well as freshly baking their own Vegan and Gluten Free breads every day. There's also a kids menu.
