  • Getting There / Parking: English's is one of Brighton's oldest and most well know restaurants. It is situated in a pleasant square in East Street in 'The Lanes' the oldest part of Brighton. You will often find street entertainers and artists of various kinds in the area.

There is some parking at the southern end of East Street or in Brill Lane(a spur off East Street) there are about three blue badge bays.

If you use one of the bus stops at the bottom of North Street (many of Brighton's buses are wheelchair accessible) it is only a short distance to English's. There is an NCP car park in Black Lion Street.

  • Getting In: The restaurant is in one of Brighton's very old buildings and therefore it is not ideal for people with mobility impairments. As you look at the building, if you use the entance on the left it has only one step, for which there is a ramp available.
  • Getting Around / Facilities: When inside you need to be aware that there is a step between the different parts of the building.

The main problem is the toilet situation. Although we may be able to manage a few steps, which would get us to the Gents, the Ladies is up three flights of stairs!

The nearest accessible toilet is accross North street in The Pavilion Gardens, so if you wish to visit this famous restaurant I suggest you visit there first!

  • Additional Comments: The restaurant spans what were originally 3 fisherman's cottages which date back over 400 years. Seafood has been served on this site for over 150 years. Englishs has been owned by the Leigh-Jones family since 1945. Guests have included Charlie Chaplin, Dame Judy Dench, Tony Blair, Charlton Heston, Lawrence Olivier and Vivien Leigh and more recently, Ewan McGregor, Jeremy Irons, Franz Ferdinand, Tony Blair, Jack Dee, Paul Merton, Hayley Mills, Twiggy and Joan Collins
