  • Getting There / Parking: The mind offices are located in St James's house on New England Street. There is a bus stop about 25 meters away from the entrance, serviced by the no. 21 and 37 buses. It is about a quarter of a mile from Preston Circus.

There is pay and display parking on the flat opposite St James's house and in nearby Elder St (although this is on a fairly steep hill). MIND also have a car park behind the office with a single disabled parking space.

There are no dropped curbs to access the office although the curb is slightly lower at one end. I managed to get up the curb in my electric wheelchair but it might be difficult without some assistance.

  • Getting In: Once on the pavement, it is reasonably easy to get in. There are double doors to access the building, these are a little heavy but there is an intercom to call for assistance.
  • Getting Around / Facilities: The building is fairly small, with a waiting area, meeting room and accessible toilet on the ground floor.

The doors to the meeting room and toilet are not very wide, so larger wheelchairs might not get through. My standard width electric wheelchair managed okay. The toilet and meeting room are fairly spacious once inside. The meeting room can hold 7-8 people, but with more than two wheelchair users it would begin to get very cramped.

There is a lift to access the upper levels, but it is very small and most wheelchairs would not fit inside. There is enough room for two people standing, and staff can provide a standard chair for people to sit in in the lift.

On the upper levels there are two interview rooms and another accessible toilet.

  • Additional Comments: I was able to access everything on the ground floor but I would not consider this an easy building to get into, and some people might struggle with the width of the doors.

Staff are aware of the access limitations of the building and will try to accommodate people's needs by meeting on the ground floor if necessary. If in doubt, just ask.
