  • Getting There / Parking: Jubilee Street is a one-way road going north, with limited parking. In front of My Hotel, approximately 30 metres south, you will find 4-5 disabled parking spaces. Taxis can also drop you off in front of Jubilee Square.

Instructions for getting to the library, with bus routes, are located here: http://www.citylibraries.info/libraries/jubilee_directions.asp

  • Getting In: The library is fully accessible, with sliding entrance doors and lowered counters for both self-service checkouts and information desks.
  • Getting Around / Facilities: There is a lift for access to the upper floors and a tactile floor plan. Seating areas and tables are located on the ground and mezzanine levels. The rows of books are spaciously arranged with room for people with wheelchairs to access most shelves.

An accessible loo is located on every floor, including some large enough for motorised scooters.

In the computer area there is a PC with an adjustable workstation, which you can reserve by selecting the wheelchair option on the reservation system (or just ask if reserving by telephone). Special software includes the screen reader JAWS, Kurzweil to convert printed text to speech for people with hearing impairments, and Supernova Screen Reader and Magnifier.

  • Additional Comments: Everyone is welcome in the library, although you have to be a member to take books out and to access the computers. Becoming a member is easy, just bring in proof of address along with current ID showing your signature. You don't have to be a resident in Brighton but you do have to meet the ID requirements.

Once you are a member, you can access all the services at any library in Brighton and Hove. Most services are free, with the exception of CDs, audio books, DVDs, language courses and Playstation 2 Games. However, anyone who brings in proof of disability can qualify for a Print Disability designation to receive lower prices on many services.

Other services include large print books, talking books, non-fiction and reference materials with staff available to help and advise. In addition to the regular book and media collections, there is free access to PCs and the internet. It's recommended that you book in advance as the computers are often busy and there is a one-hour time limit.

The library has an interesting, energy efficient design with a spacious feeling and lots of natural light.

Even if you're not a member or local to Brighton and Hove, you can still drop in and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. Scan through the extensive Local Collection with books about Brighton and Sussex, read up on a hobby, delve into some short stories or take advantage of the newspaper and magazine selection. All of this is absolutely free! As well as being a central hub for community information, libraries have a great tradition of breaking down barriers by offering free information to anyone who has the inclination to search it out.

Should you need help with any aspect of your visit, just ask a staff member for assistance. Visit the library website for more information on their services, how to join and special events: http://www.citylibraries.info/libraries/jubilee.asp
