Hollingdean Community Centre

Hollingdean Community Centre

Access is quite limited, both outside because of the steep hill and inside the building.  The "accessible" toilet is very small and difficult to access so may not be suitable for many wheelchairs.

Access information:

  • There is an accessible toilet but it is very small and may not be suitable for all
  • Address: Thompson Road

  • Getting There / Parking: Situated in Hollingdean. No 50 bus stops at Crestway, then round and down a very steep hill, drop down curb but pavement very narrow leading to Centre.

No off-street parking. No seating outside to rest or wait for taxi etc.

  • Getting In: Entrance is wider but bumpy as there are small gravel stones. Doors are hard to open and need to be pulled. Would need assistance if in a scooter or chair
  • Getting Around / Facilities: There is one main hall that can be divided into two.

Accessible garden area at the back with softish ground for children to play. There is a kitchen with the usual facilities but hard to get into as the two standard size doors are at an angle to get through with a very small turning circle.

There are male and female toilets and an accessible toilet/baby changing facility. It is quite small. The door is hard to open.

  • Additional Comments: No clear signage, hearing loop or braille and poor lighting. The Centre is self-funded and does not receive Council funding.

Is currently used by various groups - mother and baby groups, Under 18s Group, Karate, woodwork and Elderly Groups. They are very keen to hire out for the hall for all sorts of activities including parties. There is no age restriction.

The centre is available to hire for anyone.
