  • Getting There / Parking: Situated on the main bus route through Whitehawk the Centre has pedestrian access from the Whitehawk way and vehicle access from the St. Cuthman Close.

Served by the No. 1, 1A and 21 buses, the nearest bus stop is to the south of a small parade of shops approx 4-5 mins walk to the front gateway of the centre.

The car park is marked with disabled badge holder spaces and has a small ramped area leading to double fire exit doors which is the entrance for wheelchair users.

At the far end of the car park a foot path around the building and under the iron staircase leads to the entrance. The door is fairly hard to open, having an automatic closer. There is also a small sill across the door way.

The reception area has a standard sized desk and a bell to call for attention.

  • Getting In: There are 10 steps down an iron fire escape style staircase. Further north to St. Cuthman's Close the entrance to the Centre is via the car park. This way adds another 5-8 mins walk but is the only viable access for persons with limited mobility. This route is on a fairly steep slope and there is no dropped kerb at the car park entrance.
  • Getting Around / Facilities: There is a hearing loop at the desk. To the left of the reception is a Cafe area serving hot and cold food and drinks. All the furniture is free standing allowing ample space for pushchairs, wheelchairs and obviously giving the opportunity to add extra seats to accommodate larger groups at coffee time!

Being over two levels and having rooms of different sizes it is important to visit the venue when booking room hire.

    Both levels have accessible toilets,
the ground floor has a left hand transfer and the upper level a right hand transfer.

There is a 7 person automatic lift to the first floor but should anyone booking rooms know that there is likely to be a wheelchair user in their group they must make this clear and will be able to use the bar area on the ground floor. This area is adjacent to the doors from the car park , it has free standing furniture and wide double doors which can be folded back when the area is in use.

All the staff at the Valley Social Club Centre have disability awareness training and are used to working with all age groups.

Attempts are being made to raise funds to make the upper level of the Centre more accessible to all.
