Oasis Christian Fellowship Church

Oasis Christian Fellowship Church

I found it very easy to get around the main hall area and accessible toilets in my mobility scooter.  Staff were very welcoming and helpful.

  • Getting There / Parking: You can reach the church by bus - taking the 5B, which stops very near the church. Portslade railway station is a 15 minute walk. If you would like to visit and need further directions, please do not hesitate to call the office. You can find a map location from the following reference. http://www.multimap.com/s/jxA7dmlJ

There is reasonably spacious car park that includes two designated disabled parking bays.

  • Getting In: There are flat pathways leading both to the main hall and to the upper hall.

There is a totally flat entrance through heavy double doors into the foyer area.

  • Getting Around / Facilities: There is a spacious accessible toilet off of the foyer which is fitted with grab rails. The mirror is fixed fairly high up on the wall so I could not see into it from my mobility scooter. There are baby changing facilities in the toilet.

    THE MAIN HALL
It is totally flat from the foyer through the double doors into the main hall. The main hall is very spacious and can seat 60 - 70 people. There is wooden flooring.

There is a kitchen area which can serve food and drink directly into the hall through a hatch. The hatch and serving area is low and easy for wheelchair users to be seen and served. The kitchen was in use and I did not go into the kitchen in my mobility scooter.

There is a stage in the main hall which is accessed by three carpeted steps up.

UPPER HALL & CRECHE / MEETING ROOM
The upper hall area is not on a physically higher level.

There is an accessible entrance to this area of the church's facilities via the car park. There are double doors with a substantial lip which I managed in my mobility scooter on the way in, but struggled with on the way out due to positioning of the door in a corridor. I got out of the scooter to get it out of the building.

    CRECHE:
The creche room is also used as a meeting room. It can hold approx 15 - 20 people seated. The room is carpeted and has a large window.

    THE UPPER HALL:
There are double doors into the Upper Hall and a totally flat entrance. The hall is carpeted. It can seat up to 40 people and is available for children's parties as well as for meetings etc. There is not a drinks license.

There is a large kitchen and food preparation area. There is a narrow single door and tight corners in the kitchen itself, so I didn't attempt to go in with the mobility scooter.

There is an accessible toilet for this area equipped with grab rails. There is not currently a raised seat in this toilet. The mirror is positioned slightly higher than is easy to see into from a wheelchair. I found it difficult to turn my scooter in the space. I backed out of the toilet into a relatively narrow corridor, and needed to be careful as there are steep steps on one side of the accessible toilet.

OFFICE AND ADMIN AREA: There are steps to access this area.

  • Additional Comments: I really liked the feel and the vibe of this community church. I was made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble for the administrators, or for the centre users who were there during my visit.

I found it very easy to get around the main hall area and accessible toilets in my mobility scooter. There is lots of information on their website www.oasischristianfellowship.org.uk and I know they would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have, and to try to accommodate your needs as much as they can. Please contact them to discuss room hire rates.
