Please see the following request from Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust to help in research into compassion.
An exciting opportunity for you to be involved in research about compassion!
The process-
Would you like to be involved in an hour long interview with a senior researcher from the University of Brighton discussing your experience of being a relative of a patient at RSCH or PRH?
This research is the result of a shared interest in compassion between the researchers who are academic nurses in the SNM and nursing colleagues in the Trust. Compassion (once known as caring) has become the focus of political and professional attempts to restore humanity to the patient experience as a quality indicator, on a par with clinical efficacy, and resource efficiency. The objective of the research is to combine the voice of patients, relatives and nurses to illuminate the relevance and meaning of compassion in an acute care context.
The method is based on the principles of Realistic Evaluation (Pawson and Tilley 1997) to explain associations, patterns and outcomes (i.e. the contextual factors which enable or inhibit compassionate care). A qualitative questionnaire will be used with follow up interviews for patients and relatives and interviews and focus groups will be used for nurses. It is estimated that by using 4-5 designated clinical areas, approximately 100 questionnaires and 10 interviews with patients or relatives will be compared and contrasted with approximately 10 interviews and 2 focus groups with nurses. Participants will only be interviewed by academic researchers who are not employed by the Trust.

The Get Involved! project is all about ensuring disabled people can have their say in how public services are developed and run, to promote equality for all.
The Federation works with NHS Brighton and Hove, Brighton and Hove City Council and Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals Trust to involve disabled people in reviewing all public services and identifying priorities for change. Disabled people, carers and family and friends are all welcome to take part.
You can use the side menus to navigate around this page. If you have something to say, why not come along to our next meeting.
